Intro Post: How I plan to get my WLE: October 26th
So I'm looking for an internship in a health area for humans this year. It'll be really different for me because I've always looked into animal health-care but I still always studied human health-care since a young age. In order to try to find an internship I looked in the phone book and called every doctor, hospital, day care, youth center, and health centers that were included to try to find an internship but no matter who I called I always got the same answer; "We don't take interns," "We're all full," "Our programs don't start until January," " You need a teacher's degree." I talked with Joel yesterday to figure something out and, hopefully, I may be working at Girls Inc. this year if they can fit me in. If not then I'll have to continue to call more places to try and find something. I need to use the leadership skill of determination and perseverance in order to find an internship because I don't have any connections, not many anyway.

I did not attend my WLE this week due to medical difficulties. No further comment.

Today was my first day at my WLE, but it wasn't my first time meeting my mentor. I met my mentor in my freshman year of high school when I was in the Girls Inc. program. Now she's my mentor! We didn't do much today just went over what we've all missed the first three weeks. We didn't actually go to our school site today but we will go next week.

My workplace serves the fourth and fifth grade girls in a W.O.W program at another school. I didn't attend my WLE today so I don't know exactly what we'll do. I had to go to a doctors appointment and I was put on multiple medications. I spent my day resting at home.

Today was my first day working with my fourth grade group of girls. They are a really good group and being a volunteer I mainly just oversee and help the girls with their homework if they ever get stuck. I also take part in the outdoor activities with them, so I had a lot of fun. My role is a lot different here compared to at school. At school I'm the student and I'm the one learning whereas at work I'm helping the girls learn and in a way I'm their teacher.

Today was a really chill day considering it was everyone's last day before winter break, so all we really did was have a little party and raffle for the girls. Since my day with them ended earlier than usual, I went back to my workplace and thought about activities that I will eventually have to orchastrate alone with the girls and also what they like to get a feel for what would be a good idea for my major project that I have to come up with for them. I'm most definately not on track with my 75 hours right now, maily because I missed 2 days because of health reasons and also because of all the days that we had off. I don't know if I'll be able to make these hours up because there's no way I can get to my internships on any other day because I already have people go out of their way to get me there just on Fridays. To top it off, I don't have an essential question or a thesis because I have absolutely no idea what I'm supposed to create for my project. I have no photographs of my time with the girls mainly because we don't do much and there's not much to talk/write about.

Since I don't know what my project is going to be yet for WLE, I haven't actually done anything other than try to figure out what I can do. I'm also still really behind on my hours and plan to make them by working at another on Wednesdays, Mondays, and a Thursday somewhere right after school, since I can get to this organization quickly.

I didn't actually go to my worksite for two reasons: my mentor was sick and there was no program at the elementary I work at, so my mentor had me work from home and I finally figured out what I want to do for my project! Since I can't really do anything (like play sports or teach them something they'll genuinely care about) except sing and dance, I decided I'd teach my fourth grade group of girls a dance by a Korean girl group. Honestly, my WLE has always been pretty slow except for a few moments that I have with the girls that make me laugh a lot, but I think I could've done more at another organization. I never really learn much other than the material that my metor gives us in the morning. They're always life lessons like time management and ways of communicating and working with youth, other than that I don't typically learn anything.

My workplace is located in San Leandro, which is about a 20-30 minute drive from where I live. It's an organization based solely on helping empower girls for life. The office itself is fairly large and as far as I know, there are more than 40 people working there, maybe even more. These workers work at multiple sites as well as Girls Inc. I've also noticed that everyone there is a woman, although there are maybe one or two men. I've read bio's on many of the women that work there and in every bio, they have at least one if not multiple degrees and they come from all over America. However, I've never seen an actual degree from any of these women.
I also work at a elementary school, which is where I actually completed my project and worked with my fourth grade group of girls. The elementary is also located in San Leandro and is furthur out into the city than Girls Inc. The room that we work in varies, we usually work in a differnt room every week. I work with 15 adorable girls that always make me laugh and who I really enjoy spending time with and helping on their homework is they ever get stuck.
